I think Runescape doesn't require any downloading (it used to be an embedded java app). You could also play Adventure Quest at http://www.battleon.com/ which is made in flash. Both have a decent fan base and are inoffensive for a younger audience.



If you're willing to download a game I'd recommend Maple Story since it's free to install and play. It has a very friendly look and cartoony style.

Gaiaonline is making a good one. Try Dizzywood. Maplestory's members are bit mean to new users, and their shout system is often used to insult or offend users, or groups of people.
