What is a cool free MMORPG i can waste my summer on?
Basically, i plan to do 5 things this summer: sleep, eat, hang with friends, work out, and play free MMORPGs. 1 Problem with this: I dont have a free MMORPG to play! I want a really good one that will last me the full 3 months. Has to be free, and be able to run on a decent (not great) computer.

Well, I think Runescape is a pretty cool game. If you're not familiar with it, it's a game where you train skills and try to reach lvl 99 in the levels pretty much. 99 is the max level and when you get that, you have mastered it. It's not incredible graphics wise, but it's free, requires no downloads (just go to runescape.com) and can be played at whatever pace you want. People can only attack you in a few situations, and you'd know when you were getting yourself into those before they happened. On top of that, there's much more to do besides fighting each other, and to be honest Runescape really only has a small level of strategy, everything is dependent upon your armor and levels, which are pretty easy to raise/obtain. I play a game called Invictus (aka Mabinogi Heroes outside the US and Europe). It is a hack-and-slash mmo, and is also free-to-play. It has great dialogue and you start instancing right away. None of that endless grindfest you have to put up with any typical mmorpg. This game has a very interactive environment, and you can use items inside the instances to beat up opponents with. If you have the cash to spare every month, then get Wow, but if you would like a one time pay game, get guild wars and you wont regret either of them.

Okay just say that in 10 years, there is a new MMORPG and WoW loses most of its fanbase. There are just a few hundred players left and Bliazzard want to shut it off. If they shut it off, then all of those players can't use the game anymore because its strictly online.What happens when a MMORPG has too few players and the company wants to shut it off?
For the most part, the company will eventually come to terms that the game has to be shutdown as it isn't profitable anymore.
A lot of games have tried things like making the game free (Shadowbane for example), while others announce that they are shutting down (Asheron's Call 2) and eventually do so.
For smashes like World of Warcraft and Everquest 1, you can expect those games to last at least 10 years from inception, if not more. Games like these always somehow maintain a core user community and while the population dwindles, they still somehow seem to manage.

Okay just say that in 10 years, there is a new MMORPG and WoW loses most of its fanbase. There are just a few hundred players left and Bliazzard want to shut it off. For the most part, the company will eventually come to terms that the game has to be shutdown as it isn't profitable anymore.
A lot of games have tried things like making the game free (Shadowbane for example), while others announce that they are shutting down (Asheron's Call 2) and eventually do so.
For smashes like World of Warcraft and Everquest 1, you can expect those games to last at least 10 years from inception, if not more. Games like these always somehow maintain a core user community and while the population dwindles, they still somehow seem to manage.

I would like to find a free-to-play mmorpg with a lot of class content (meaning: the highest number of playable character classes). I have played EQ and WoW for years, loved both but always wished that WoW had the class variety of the original EQ. For those of you who don't know, MMORPG stands for Massively Multi-player Online Role Playing Game. I've tried Star Wars Galaxies, Dungeons and Dragons Online, and currently Lord of the Rings Online. So what're your favorites and why?What do you think is the best MMORPG ever?
I would say the best ever is Everquest 1 as it was very absorbing and held my interest longer than any other MMORPG. That said, it is fairly dated at this point (I haven't played in probably 4 years) so the graphics may not be up to what you like.
When it first came out, I enjoyed Dark Age of Camelot but I'm not big on PvP (or RvR) and I played Hibernia (which was the least finished realm by far at launch). This was my first MMO (then I tried EQ).
Worlds of Warcraft is fun but has some issues. End game is nothing but raiding (raid to get better gear to raid to get better gear ad nauseum). It is much easier than most other MMOs - there is really no reason to group unless you want to try some of the 5-man or 10-man dungeons (but those aren't required). Blizzard has no issues with significantly changing the game for no real reason - the reason I quit was they broke *every* Hunter specific addon in patch 10 (most of which had worked unmodified nearly since launch (this was 1.5 years later)) and intentionally did so in such a way that some could not be fixed (without fixing some of the bugs with Hunters (mostly pets) that had been in the game since launch that were being worked around by the addons).
City of Heroes/Villains is alot of fun. It has the most involved graphic character generation I've seen in a MMO (not a big deal to me but alot of people love it). You can solo or group at your leisure. All instanced missions (which is most) auto-adapt to the number of people on the mission. The only content you must group for is Task Forces (not as bad as a raid in most games with a cap of 8 players). This is one of my current favorites.
EVE Online is interesting, different, and fun. However, I think I'm about to cancel my sub as CCP claims they support all playstyles but refuse to fix the lag problems in key systems (Saila/Aramachi area is the only high security area with good quality Level 4 Caldari Navy agents that give kill missions regularly). Multiple people have suggested multiple solutions to the issue but CCP seems to refuse to implement them (they seem to want everyone to go into 0.0 or low security space and fight massive PvP battles).
Warhammer: Age of Reckoning is in beta (hiatus until December so they can do a ton more development and improvements) and is alot of fun.
D%26amp;D Online had promise but Turbine completely screwed up. The biggest selling point was that it was D%26amp;D. Some things needed to be changed to make a fun MMO of D%26amp;D but alot did not. Each and every patch Turbine released during Alpha and Beta made the game less and less like D%26amp;D.
Fallen Earth looks promising (closest thing to Fallout MMO we'll see for quite a while).
When it first started playing EQ, it was challenging and fun; you could get a group within minutes of logging in. Then people stopped joining and the rates rose. It's insane to charge a subscription fee *and* charge for expansions - pick one or the other.
I now play Guild Wars, which allows free online play and you pay for the expansion packs. You can complete most of the missions without having to group with others, but just using heroes or henchmen (NPCs), and getting groups for zones you need them for is usually pretty simple. The loot distribution system is great. Ok, i've been playing WoW on and off for a while (HAD 85 mage, 80 rogue, etc - now deleted :D),
and sure i'm not into MMORPGs hardcore, but now as I purchase pre order SWTOR, I'm hearing Themepark and Sandbox MMORPG?
I know what a sandbox is for a programme, but mmorpg? How about themepark?

A sandbox is just that, a sandbox for you to play in.
An example would a game with no classes or quests. Players would choose what they wanted to be good at while they were playing, not selecting a pre-existing class. Or no quests, players would create their own adventures by thinking up things to do on their own.

Basically, the difference between the two is that in a sandbox players create their own fun with the tools they are given, whereas in a themepark, the fun is already created, say a quest with a completely linear ending, and you're just along for the ride.

I would recommend guild wars. You do initially have to buy the game (but its really cheap now newayz) but once you have it there are no additional subscription fees like other MMO games.

At Aeria Shiya is a pretty fun game its more into the pvping tho but if you like that you should play it.
Currently, the best options you have are Perfect World (get the Malaysian translation over the International one; I hear they botched a lot of things), Flyff (though I don't recommend it, IMO), Runescape, DragonFable, Adventure Quest, NeoSteam, and... I guess that's it. :) Hope it helps.

There is a great browser game called Golemizer. It is not fantasy, steampunk rather, but it has open PvP and you can create your own guild for free. It easily operates on a mac, I used to play it from a Mac.

There is a great browser game called Golemizer. It is not fantasy, steampunk rather, but it has open PvP and you can create your own guild for free. It easily operates on a mac, I used to play it from a Mac.

In Guild Wars I know its deffinitly green weps because you only get 1 green wep of your choice at the end of every game the first time you beat it. You cant get it a second time around. I tried lol. And probally rare mini pets too like that big dragon I forget its name and the blue mermaid looking thing I forget its name too. Cause those u only get if u buy the nightfall deluxe edition. And if you buy them from another player its very expensive probally like 100k i saw them going for. You can get some green weps in other places too but its rare. Like I got a totem axe farming in the jungle in prophicies by killing a big wurm. And the celestial weps are rare too. You can get them as a drop in the Naphui Quarter mission but its all luck and its rare. I got a celestial bow and sword there. There cool looking. And a storm bow with a good req like 9 is rare too. You get them in uw as a drop. Also ectos and obsidian shards are rare. People sell them for alot. They are rare crafting materials and you need them for some armor in gwen like those glowing hands. They are very very expensive. If you want them start saving money and ectos. Theres lots of more rare stuff in Guild Wars im sure. Hope ive helped. Good luck finding them! :)

Relating to your question, there is one game that would fit, a lot of people bring profit from it, and that is World of Warcraft.
If you want any progress in money, bringed from a computer game you could try it, create a neat private server, or have somebody to do it for you get people on it by posting stuff about it on the internet and the sites that have lots of related stuff with it.

Can i make an mmorpg now and implement a server later?
Question is pretty straightforward, just wanting to know if i can start developing an mmorpg game right now with my game engine and get a server started later. I want to finish the game and then buy about $1,000,000 worth of servers which would be around 10 I think giving me a game population of 20,000 for the release day. I am playing an MMORPG called Cabal and i've gotten my character to a fairly respectable level and I was just curious if after betas for Online RPGs if they usually reset everything and make you start over again, i've never played a beta before so I don't really know what happens when they are over.What usually happens after a beta for an MMORPG, do you lose your characters and half to start over again?

I want to play an mmorpg that has anime-style graphics like MapleStory or Trickster. 2D if possible. I know at their core most mmorpg are lvl grinders but I want something else besides that that keeps me coming back to the game. An awesome customization or a great social community. Anything.

There's a couple games that I played that were pretty nice. One was Rappelz. It had great guilds to join and do dungeons and defend dungeons if the guild owned one. Only down side was that the droprate was very low for pretty much everything.
Another is Asda Story. Last time I checked it was still in beta testing. It is pretty neat. You can make your own weapons or brew potions. There's mining. You can either automine with a lower chance of finding stuff or you can click a different shovel everytime you want to mine anywhere you want to really.
Lastly, conquer online is pretty addictive. It doesn't really have the anime-style graphics, but I really enjoyed the style they have. It's pretty much a grinding style game, but there are a lot of people on it and building weapons and armor seemed about limitless. It's a fun game if you like finding a bunch of items. It's easy to make a lot of money on that game.
Xivio is a wonderful online game/virtual world/social networking site. There is so much to do on one site.
